History of Marine Drive

The purpose of constructing Marine Drive was basically one among the multiple parts of the Back Bay Reclamation Scheme of the British Government. The ground plan was to dredge the water body and dump big boulders into it in order to obtain bigger piece of land for the westward extension of the city. The construction of Marine Drive was started in the year 1915 at Girgaum Chowpatty, which once upon a time was known as Kennedy Sea Face. A most of the construction work was finished in the 1930s. In the same time frame, the attention shifted to the architecture or structure of the place and the inclusion of the popular Art Deco fashion was planned. This seemed to be quite modern and impressive. The rich Parsi immigrants and film stars quickly accepted it and started building a spree of buildings along the beautiful Marine Drive.
